IMPERIAL OIL (IOL) PROJECT
MORGAN CONSTRUCTION & ENVIRONMENTAL INC.PILE CUTTING PROPOSAL
A field-ready plan using Innovative Well Abandonment’s high-pressure water jet cutting system with dual pumping systems.
Compliant

01 — Project Area
IMPERIAL OIL COLD LAKE
Morgan Construction and Environmental Ltd. — Imperial Oil project northwest of Cold Lake, Alberta
NORTHWEST OF COLD LAKE
Project area northwest of Cold Lake. The scope covers approximately 4 km of above-ground pipeline supported by 6-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch piles spaced approximately 10 m apart. Morgan shears the pipes and I-beams, trimming I-beams to approximately 1 ft above ground; Innovative Well Abandonment cuts piles to approximately 1 ft above surface, then water jet cuts them 2 m below surface. Backfilling uses client-supplied material.
Applications
01
Pipelines
02
Gas plants and oil sands sites
03
Production facilities
04
Tank farms
05
Well sites
02 — Technology
Cutting Technology & Execution
High-pressure water jet cutting, and the sequence the crews follow on each pile.
High-Pressure Water Jet Cutting
A high-pressure water jet cutting system with dual pumping systems cuts through pile walls without heat or sparks.
Minimal Ground Disturbance
Cuts are made from inside the pile, with minimal to no disturbance to the surrounding ground.
2 m Specified Depth
Piles on this project will be cut 2 metres below surface. The system can reach 10 metres or more.
External Cutting Tools
External cutting tools are available as an additional capability where internal access is limited.
Execution Sequence
- 01
Morgan shears the pipes and I-beams, trimming I-beams to approximately 1 foot above ground.
- 02
IWA cuts piles to approximately 1 foot above surface, then water jet cuts them 2 metres below surface.
- 03
Internal debris is checked and cleared, with steaming if required.
- 04
IWA completes a 360-degree water jet cut 2 metres below surface.
- 05
Morgan pulls the piles with a tracked excavator.
- 06
IWA backfills the holes with a backhoe using client-supplied material.

04 — Assumptions
Assumptions & Conditions
The basis of estimate for this proposal, including access, schedule and operating conditions.
Backfill Material
Backfilling uses client-supplied material (sand or other suitable fill). IWA will backfill every hole using a Case 590 backhoe.
Pile Removal
Morgan will provide the tracked excavator and pull each pile once IWA completes the cut.
Pipeline Removal
Morgan will shear the pipes and I-beams, trimming I-beams to approximately 1 foot above ground. IWA then performs all pile cutting.
Pile Interiors
Steaming may be required to clear debris from pile interiors before the internal cut can be completed.
Cut Depth
Piles will be cut 2 metres below surface with a 360-degree high-pressure water jet cut.
Pricing Option
The client will select either per-pile pricing (Option A) or the day rate (Option B) before mobilization.
Accommodation
Subsistence is charged at $275 per person per day, or $0 where camp accommodation is provided.
Site Access and Safety
The client will provide site access along the right-of-way, site orientation, and any required gas-detection and communication devices.
05 — Contacts
Contacts & Next Steps
Leads on both sides of the project, and what has to close before the crew mobilizes.
